Take Your Fun-Fun!

Latest news for the past couple weeks have been the sicknesses I have battled in this country. I think it is a mixture of the dust in my apartment + not enough vegetables + somewhat erratic sleeping schedule + World Cup-induced excess + getting used to food that have worked together to give me a repeating hard core cold. I think the real issue was not actually that the cold kept re-occurring, but that it actually never left in the first place. oops.

Oh well. I went to the Korean doctor just to be sure that it wasn't an infection, since I was coughing up a lot of green stuff (lovely, I know) and my ears were so full I kept getting vertigo in class haha. Luckily, just a simple cold, for which there is the remedy of approximately 23948 pills a day and this strange powder that has a frog on it for sore throats.

I was told to take that roll of pills each day for about 4 days. Each of those pockets were labeled either B, L, or D - Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner! Yum! I think I took about one pill total out of them. Haha. However, I am a big fan of 비타 500 (Vita 500, except they don't say "V's" here, so BEETA). High in Vitamin C and it did help me feel better. That + multivitamins. I have to start eating more vegetables!!!!

OH. So, before I went to the doctor I went to the pharmacy to get some nasal decongestants. This was where the whole fun-fun thing started. Luckily, I read the label and watched a lot of Arrested Development to recognize that the pills they gave me were primarily phen-phen. You know, that diet drug banned by the FDA? I think the lady misunderstood somehow and thought maybe I wanted to lose a few pounds. Actually, I think the main point of confusion was because I said I didn't want to be sleepy. haha. Oh well. Needless to say, I didn't take those.

Oh, so it's the end of the road for the Korea and World Cup. Sad. :[ I will leave on this note. Still no camera, so this picture is Gina's.

Today, I have a half day so I'm looking forward to peacefully enjoying my favorite part of the day= SUNSET. I really miss this time of day, especially during the summer time, since I'm normally in class. Last time, I had a half day I just sat on these steps and watched the sun go down and drew for three hours. It was incredibly relaxing, so I think I may do that again.

I'm sitting in a chair and Namsan is running around in circles between my legs. It's pretty cute.

World Cup Whirlwind

Hola amigos. Last weekend, Gina Ahn and I went to Coex and watched the Korea vs. Greece world cup match! It was pretty freakin awesome aside from the fact that it was raining. Honestly though, I think it just added to the excitement because it made us just that much more hardcore. We sat on the concrete on top of magazines and drank a Cass/soju cocktail. Essentially, a pretty ghetto situation. Oh, and we were wearing red ponchos. Very stylish. Some pics (Gina's):

It was a really unique experience and it was interesting sharing that moment with the Koreans, even if it's not my country. I was also really taken aback by how into soccer the Koreans are, which is another reason why it was rewarding. I'm not used to soccer being a sport people care about, having grown up in America and all. It was always lame since I actually love soccer and have played it for many years. That being said, I joined a women's soccer league in Itaewon, Seoul! Woo! I e-mailed everything to the coaches and it should be all set soon I hopeee.

Anywho, after the game I was exhausted but Gina made me go to the USA vs. UK game that was being shown at foreigner bars in Itaewon. I'm glad she dragged me out though because it ended up being really fun! The bar was essentially 2/3 USA fans and 1/3 UK so that was cool. I got really into it and felt a strange solidarity for my country that one can only feel after being abroad for an extended period of time. Even though America sucks at soccer and everything I said was totally out of jest, it was one of my "America is my home and I love it" moments. That sounds incredibly cheesy and patriotic but oh well.

I really love rooting for Korea though in all other instances and I have my I <3 Korea soccer jersey that I hung up in my classroom during the Korea vs. Argentina game yesterday. Our director let us end the lesson early to let the kids watch the game which was awesome! It was kind of a cute bonding moment with my kids though. Aww, having to leaving these kids at some point, for as much as they piss me off, will be sad :(:(. I don't even like having to say goodbye to my classes end of term! Actually, scratch that. I like saying goodbye to most. haha. I think the only class I miss are my cute mega kids who were geniuses. The girls still come to my room sometimes during break to say hi though, which is adorable.

I should update so much more. The kids say the funniest stuff, which I am going to start writing down.

In other news, my rabbit is mad at me because I successfully blocked him from eating the pipes. He's pissed. He won't even hang out in the room with me right now and part of why I stayed home for a bit was to hang with him. We're sharing a carrot, but he won't even eat with me.

Pooper.

ALSO. Big news= My schedule was re-arranged and now I only have one half day and it is on Friday NIGHTS, which is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Me vs. Namsan

Namsan is a curious rabbit. More curious than any rabbit should be. The first obstacle we had to overcome was his love for peeing on my bed, which was straight-up unacceptable. So I relocated him to the kitchen/dryer area thinking, "What's the worst he could do in here?"

Well, apparently the worst he could do in there was eat foil off of my water pipes and knock my hot water pipe loose causing the water to squirt everywhere/total chaos to erupt/loss of the ability to take a hot shower. GAH! I moved around my luggage that was blocking his access to the pipes and moved his cage so he couldn't hop from the top of the cage to the luggage to the pipe area, but I think he ended up hopping from cage to sink to pipe, last night.

TOO CURIOUS.

I told him to "GET OUT" in a loud voice several times and he did hahah. He's learning English pretty quickly (I'd say he's at about EC right now.)

Aside from my constant battle with Namsan, life has been pretty good. Even that isn't too bad because I can't be mad at him for more than 5 minutes because he's cute and furry.

Gina Ahn is in town- wooo! Last weekend we went around Seoul shopping and we went to Insadong, an area of Seoul with souvenirs and more traditional types of Korean stuff. Fun. Now that I got paid I can go get some souvenirs for people and a new camera! Wooo. :[ So sad mine broke though.

Okay, have to get back to freelancing byeeeeeeeee.

Meat

Getting sick of it...

Literally. getting sick. :[ I had a five day period where I couldn't hold anything down and now some weird stomach issues again.

!! Also, prepping right now for my lesson on factory farming, so I found the need to announce this.

If I was in the US I'd be a veg again... or at least maybe eat chicken/meat on occasion.

The Koreans really love this stuff...

GaFF

It seems that the more tired I am, the harder it is for me to sleep.

Enigmas such as these lead to even greater MIND-BOGGLING MYSTERIES such as my sleep-deprived under-caffeinated discussion with my class today, during which I vehemently insisted that Gandhi was still alive.

All the while, thinking I was talking about the Dalai Lama. When I attempted to explain this bizarre mishap to my students, I was met with shouts of, "LLAMA?!" "WHA!?"

WoOoPs OK I just needed to publicly acknowledge somewhere the fact that I am now wide awake and. yeah. if the sun rises before my eyes close, tomorrow will not be fun.

SO FAR...

I have tried the following tactics:

1. DRANK SOME WATER
2. ATE A COOKIE (not exactly a tactic, more of an act of boredom).
3. READ A BOOK
4. GOOGLED (Terrible option, always results in a Wikipedia binge, in which I end up reading random articles on any one of a broad range of somewhat useless topics. Last page visited in tonight's lineup: Howard Zinn).
5. DRANK SOME WATER
6. WENT TO THE BATHROOM
7. LOOKED AT PPL'S TUMBLRS
8. BLOGGED

Number 9, going for either the iPod or cookie. Wish me luck!!@
